Hluhuwe and Umfolozi Game Reserve

We arrived at Hluluwe Sunday evening and took a night drive with a guide.  We startled some Rhino, saw a mini herd of honey badgers, found a lone hyena wandering and an owl perched on a hill.

The following morning, we were picked up at camp at 7am for our day long game drive. Soon in the drive we came across a few teenage elephants digging and eating trees.

Throughout the day we came across many groups of animals, often intermingling.   Zebras, baboons, wildebeest, warthogs and impala became a common sighting.  The rhino and elephants, however were the most exciting of our sightings.

The day ended with the surprise opportunity of going into the research area of the park to see black rhinos in enclosures, who were being prepared to be auctioned to other game reserves.
